I've always wanted a Geiger Counter. The old yellow civil defense models just didn't seem to be worth the money that they were fetching on the market. They weren't practical. Today we need to have things connected to the internet and collect data over a time period.
Just so you know... The "Cly Radio Research Institute" started as a joke between Craig WA1HEW and myself. It has gone far enough now that we're starting to take it seriously.
I stumbled upon the radmon.org website. This site is a map of all internet capable radiation meters. There are quite a few varieties supporting the global monitoring effort. The one that really attracted my attention was the RadMon+ unit by DIY Geiger Counters. He provides several different variations of kits to assemble your own. The attraction of the RadMon+ model is that it is all browser-configured. It also directly supports radmon.org, Thingspeak.org, and data.sparkfun.com.
I am very pleased with the kit overall. The creator of the kit was extremely supporting when I contacted him. Many thanks to John for his contribution to science and the Internet of Things!
